R.I.P. Analogue Television

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Today marks a sad and solemn day, the day the eldest child of the entertainment world, analogue television broadcasts, will be put to rest.

But guess what, its not all bad, we are livin’ in digital broadcast time now, in all its glory.

If you havent switched already or have no idea what I’m talkin’ about, crawl out from under that rock and mention DTV to anyone you meet. They will tell you how beautiful digital television broadcasts are. Its almost like having cable, without paying for cable… oh wait its just like that!

My house was moved over from analogue to digital when the government first announced the switch and were handing out 40$ coupons for converter boxes and I havent looked back.

Picture is better, sound is more crisp and even the air I breath feels cleaner as I know there are no longer analogue signals traveling across it…ok thats a little too far but really, the quality of digital over the air TV is pretty ;)

If your old tube tv no longer receives a signal, now you know why

What’s a Dogpile?

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

I had a hit today from Dogpile search engine. I do in fact know what a dogpile is, and what Dogpile is. I learned about it when I was in school way back when…but who still uses it?

Whoever you are that still use Dogpile, AltaVista and Yahoo, I have to hand it to you. Staring down the big G (oogle) like that is pretty impressive.

Although when I used those search engines, their results were fairly poor so maybe you just dont know that Google is better… ;)

A Sidescrolling Journey

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

A friend of a friend of a friend…we have all heard that before…and it has nothing to do with this post…

Through a friend I found a a site documenting a music groups ten day journey from coast to coast.

This is perhaps one of the most interesting, thought provoking and out of the ordinary websites I have even seen.

My friend mentioned the websites load time at around 10 minutes and I had to see if this was true..it is. The website is flashed based and loads in the background as you scroll from day one to day ten. The groups music plays in the background.

The journey is essentially photos of the groups journey, edited to add text to certain areas of the photos in a very interesting way, and spliced together one after another.

Very cool. Notice the different and unique typeset usage. There are so many great design elements used here.
